TOPICS/ WITCHES WHEEL
The witches wheel contains the teachings of time as metaphor.
It is also the celebration of change upon the eath, and so, change within ourselves.
YOU WILL UNCOVER THE TEACHING OF THE WITCHES WHEEL UNDERSTOOD AS THE STORY OF THE SUN AND HER INFLUENCE UPON LIFE WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE FOUR SEASONS.
Time is a spiral. The eight pagan holidays are discussed in detail within the folkloric record of ancient times, and as modern witchcraft practice. These teachings have many layers.
The pagan holidays are often misconstrued or only partially understood in modern day witchcraft culture. Sometimes they are presented as having to do only with particular deities, or as being culturally specific practices from certain places in the world. While it is, of course, true that there exist culturally specific practices around the holidays, it is also true that we all orbit the Sun, our closest Star.
These are Solar celebrations, marking the 2 Solstices, 2 Equinoxes and 4 Cross-Quarter holy days, or the height of each season, in a system of four seasons, as is the case here in the Northern Hemisphere.
We will study the eight Solar holidays in depth, looking at ancient and historical concepts as well as meaningful ways to weave these teachings in our own contemporary context.
These teachings begin to open our sense of our own cosmology, building out from where we already stand and orbit from.
The Lunar phases are another pivot on the Witches Wheel. Please see the entry titled ‘Lunar Phases’ to read more about them.
